This is an amazing CD - it gets better with every listen. Just had the blessing of meeting Sam for the first time at S.F. Borders - she is incredibly gracious, kind, funny, sweet and infinitely patient - taking the time to speak with each fan for several minutes. There is a common thread in most fan’s comments about Sam: how her music has touched their lives and helped them in times of need. Very few musicians have this deep impact on their listeners, and I think it’s because Sam’s songs reflect what is truly in her heart, rather than lyrics written with profit and commercialism in mind. When I met her, I had to stop myself from getting confessional about my current spiritual searching and the fears that hold me back - I wanted to tap into that deep reservoir of wisdom and understanding that she has. If it is possible to love someone you don’t know personally, then I can honestly say that’s what I feel for her. I’m just grateful for you, Sam.

Joan Anderman gave a rave review to the new album in today's Boston Globe. You should be able to find the review online at http://www.boston.com/ae/music/cd_reviews/articles/2008/06/03/grace_under_fire at least for a while.

I wasn't familiar with Phillips, but that review got me to this website. At first listen to some of the samples, on Amazon, I am reminded of the sort-of-glam-rock band Sparks (the Mael brothers, from L.A. originally though mostly based in England), though perhaps not as logorrheic as those guys. This is a good thing to be reminded of, though.

Sam, Looking forward to the new release on June 3rd, and seeing you in person at Borders in Bryn Mawr PA on June 7th. Always great having you back in the Philly area. Good luck with the new record.

Couldn't we just bypass the entire month of May and head right into June? Kind of a Phillipian calendar to replace the Gregorian version? Please?
