Couldn’t we just bypass the entire month of May and head right into June? Kind of a Phillipian calendar to replace the Gregorian version? Please?

Joan Anderman gave a rave review to the new album in today’s Boston Globe. You should be able to find the review online at http://www.boston.com/ae/music/cd_reviews/articles/2008/06/03/grace_under_fire at least for a while.

I wasn’t familiar with Phillips, but that review got me to this website. At first listen to some of the samples, on Amazon, I am reminded of the sort-of-glam-rock band Sparks (the Mael brothers, from L.A. originally though mostly based in England), though perhaps not as logorrheic as those guys. This is a good thing to be reminded of, though.

This is an amazing CD - it gets better with every listen. Just had the blessing of meeting Sam for the first time at S.F. Borders - she is incredibly gracious, kind, funny, sweet and infinitely patient - taking the time to speak with each fan for several minutes. There is a common thread in most fan’s comments about Sam: how her music has touched their lives and helped them in times of need. Very few musicians have this deep impact on their listeners, and I think it’s because Sam’s songs reflect what is truly in her heart, rather than lyrics written with profit and commercialism in mind. When I met her, I had to stop myself from getting confessional about my current spiritual searching and the fears that hold me back - I wanted to tap into that deep reservoir of wisdom and understanding that she has. If it is possible to love someone you don’t know personally, then I can honestly say that’s what I feel for her. I’m just grateful for you, Sam.
